October 26 , 2005Cemetery MusingsOk, so it may not be everybody’s ideal walking rendezvous but truth be told, I find cemeteries to be one of those eerily fascinating places to be. Of course here in Manila, one would immediately think of the American Memorial Cemetery in Fort Bonifacio or her equally famous sister, the Chinese Cemetery in the district of Sta. Now, let’s move on and do Neo-Gothic this time…I give you, the Lim family mausoleum.Stylized gothic…courtesy of the Pamintuan Family.Twin gothic (horror?) and shades of Paris’ Pere Lachaise…?The end of the line….alas, the dead are not spared from the perils of the ‘leaving’, this sign gives a stern warning to those who dare steal the dead’s wordly goods - crosses or what have you- for they, their parents, family, wife or children will certainly be punished by the thunderous wrath of God (death!)Now that’s scary.

I came down with something.12/23/01: I was pretty sick and stayed in bed all day while the others went to church and dinner and stuff.12/24/01: I was still sick and in bed most of the day but was well enough for the Christmas eve service and a party at Jim & Got some shoes for Beth and a present for our house sitters. I moved to Judy’s friend’s house since the folks who owned the condo we were in came home. Beth began to get very sick.12/30/01: Beth was very sick and couldn’t make it to church, or dinner at Lambert’s Cafe (home of throwed rolls) at all. We later drove all over trying to find a doctor, then I drove all over trying to get prescriptions filled.12/31/01: Beth was down sick all day again. We played Pit a lot too (one of my presents).1/1/02: Beth was feeling a little better, well enough to go to breakfast with everyone to Waffle House. Beth went home, I watched the Orange Bowl with the guys.1/3/02: Beth finally feeling a little better.

I was to have had my general physical exam tomorrow, something I have been waiting over 6 months for and they have already canceled many times before. I was discharged from the Navy 7 months ago for injuries sustained during training. Anyway…The fact is I received injuries and developed medical conditions as a direct result of my military service. As a result of that fall and as shown in x-rays taken 4 months after my injuries (yes they refused to x-ray my spine) I had fractures in my spine. I kept getting worse and worse physically and finally was told I was going to be medically discharged and sent to Recruit Medical Hold and then the Navy hospital. I spent a total of 15 months in the Navy, 11 of that living in the Navy hospital. I have gone almost 7 months with no medical treatment because I fit into a medical loophole. The VA hospital said that they cannot treat me until my claim has been settled because I was in service less than 24 months. The state will not cover my medical bills because I have an open claim pending with the VA. They know that I will be homeless soon unless they settle my claim soon. By delaying my exams and delaying settling my claim they are hoping to low ball me and force me into taking a lesser percentage than I am entitled to. I currently am living in Huntington, West Virginia for the sole purpose of settling my disability claim. I have plans to move once my claim is settled. I can’t move until my claim is settled. If I move before my claim is settled and have it transferred to another VA my claim will be postponed for at least another 6 months to a year at the least.

Oh Lord, thanks for healing me so quickly. I’m sorry I was so selfish yesturday when I was sick. As I said, I get selfish when I’m sick and when she starts caring more about my nose dripping on her floor then me…
